I was playing Outlast last night and there was this moment where I just had to screenshot something and send it to my friend to scare her. 😈

At first, just like you, I assumed that the screenshot(s) were usually saved right into Steam’s Screenshots section.

Not all of them. Some are in the Steamapps folder, some are in My Games, some are in Saved games. I suggesting looking in all of those places and copying them all to an external drive.

So I tried to look for it by going into Steam’s settings, skimming through the various menu options and all that stuff. I even tried to look through my machine to see if it is stored in the hard disk.

And I still couldn’t find it, haha. 🤦‍♂️

At this point, I just threw my hat in and decided to just google it up and see where my Steam screenshots are saved.

What I found was that the screenshots that you take when you press the F12 button get stored into a hidden place called Screenshots which is inside the In-Game directory right in your Steam client itself.

Steam doesn’t exactly make this process easy to find these screenshots, so there are a few steps to it.

In this guide, I’ll be precisely going over how to access the Steam Screenshots folder as well as a few alternate shortcut tricks that you can try. 🙂

Let’s dive right in.

Where Are Steam Screenshots Saved?

1. The Simplest Option.

  1. Jump into your Steam client on either your Windows PC or Mac then click on the View tab (on the top menu). Then from the dropdown menu click on Screenshots.
  1. Now, select the game that you have saved screenshots. This will bring up all the screenshots saved for the game that you had chosen. You can then click on the Show on disk (at the bottom) to access the screenshots right from your hard drive directly.

It’s arranged by each game so that you won’t have to look through your entire library of screenshots to find the particular screenshot.

The next method is another alternative method that allows you to access tour screenshots directly from your Windows PC’s hard disk. It’s a great option if you are too lazy to open the Steam Client.

2. Accessing the Screenshots Folder Directly from a Windows PC.

Each Steam user has his or her own screenshots folder where all their in-game screenshots are saved.

This particular folder is located where your Steam app is currently installed on your PC which is the local disk C.

Here’s how you find it:

  1. Jump onto your PC and then go ahead open up your File Explorer.
  2. Next, simply add the following link into the Search to directly open up the screenshots folder. But before you enter and search the link there is one missing piece! 🧩
  1. Take note of the next part. Do you see that there is a field in the link below that says <USER_ID>? Yes, this will be your unique Steam ID which can be found by opening up your Steam Client and then open up your Steam Profile then click View Profile. The Steam ID will be the number at the end located in the URL. Just copy and paste the Steam ID into the above link and Voila! You can now always access your screenshots directly from in your File Explorer.
Help! I don’t see a number at the end of the URL. How do I find my SteamID?

If in such case where you don’t see a number at the end of your URL when you view your Steam profile then simply just jump into your Steam Client, click on View from the top menu and then choose Settings.

Now from the left-hand sidebar, click on Interface. You will find a box that says “Display Steam URL address when available”. Simply check the box and hit OK (below) to save it.

You can now try jumping to your Steam Profile (I have added the direct link for you here) and then click View Profile. You will see a number at the end located in the URL which is your SteamID.

Help! How do I find my GAME_ID (the App ID)?

Simply jump to the game that you’re looking the screenshot(s) for in the Store page. Next, like how you check for your User ID you can look at the URL. The last number in the URL is the game/application ID. All the store URLs are in the format: store.steampowered.com/app/APPID.

So for Wasteland 2, the URL is: http://store.steampowered.com/app/240760/ and appID 240760.

3. Still can’t access your Steam Screenshots? Do this.

If you’ve tried absolutely everything in this guide and you still manage to find that you can not locate the Screenshots, then simply just click on the link below to directly bring you straight to the Screenshots location in your Steam:
